This is a five-day training and certification course for new homeownership advisors. Foundations of Homebuyer Advising provides participants with skills to guide consumers through the steps to become ready to purchase a home. Through interactive training and activities, participants will learn professional skills to assist consumers in resolving barriers to homeownership and achieving their goals. Participants will learn the Homebuyer Services Model including screening, determining mortgage readiness, budgeting, affordability, prequalification, reviewing credit, and more. Participants will also explore one-to-one advising activities and best approaches for Financial Wellness (long-term) and Homebuyer Advising (short-term) cases.

This course takes place over five days:

  1. Tuesday, March 31st
  2. Wednesday, April 1st
  3. Thursday, April 2nd
  4. Tuesday, April 7th
  5. Wednesday, April 8th

Course hours are 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. each day. A 45-minute lunch break will be provided each day, from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m., along with short breaks throughout the day.

Online Format

This will be a synchronous online learning course, with students participating virtually through Zoom and accessing course materials through SharePoint. Stable internet/Wi-Fi connection is required. Students must participate using their camera.
